Become A MentorOur year-long mentorship program features a series of bi-weekly workshops hosted at the University of Michigan Detroit Center. The purpose of the workshops are to build meaningful and mutually beneficial relationships between local minority high schoolers and minority University of Michigan students. We are looking for mentors who can offer our high school students a unique perspective on what it is like attending college as a minority students. This allows students to receive advice that is unique to their personal experience. We want mentors who are excited and committed to giving back to their community and build up the younger generation. We our mentors who are willing to push our mentees to go above and beyond what they thought imaginable.
Each workshop will be centered around a central theme designed to build confidence, knowledge, and self-determination amongst our young participants. Each workshop will end in with an application session dedicated to helping students find and fill out applications for scholarships, outreach programs, and college. Our workshops are designed to be fun and engaging, while also serving a larger purpose. We hope that you will join us in our endeavour to increase opportunities for the youth in our communities. Mentors will receive free transportation to the workshops via the Detroit Connector as well as a log of their complete community service hours. Lunch will also be provided at the workshops. |

Join the Leadership Committee |
Join A CommitteeOur committees are made up of students who are inspired by the B3 missions, and want to help us make it a reality! B3 is a large and diverse organization with many different aspects, and we need your help to make sure everything runs smoothly. By joining one our three committees (Mentorship, Internal Affairs, and Organized Outreach) you will help plan out B3 programs and events. This is a great opportunity to learn more about B3 and our mission, without making a significant time commitment.
Organized Outreach

Internal Affairs This committee is tasked with organizing and executing all on-campus events for University of Michigan students. Volunteer at Excursion DayAs we usher in 150 high schoolers on campus we need all hands on deck! We are looking for student leaders and mentors from all majors to join us in making this day a success so that we can leave a lasting impression on the youth in our communities.
Student Leaders: Student Leaders will be in charge of leading small groups of students to tour the designated building and its resources, followed by a quick Q & A, and a small activity. There will be three to four tour groups, with each being an hour and half in length. Shifts are available to those who are unable to stay the entire time. Mentors: For the last hour and a half of our program participants will have the opportunity to sit down with one or two mentors for a small round table discussion. Conversations are intended to be open and fluid for any questions they may have, so no preparation is necessary. All you need to do is show up and speak honestly about your experiences. We encourage volunteers to attend both as student leaders and mentors. Feel free to sign up for as many shifts as you would like. |
